Central Netted Dragon

Order:  Squamata (scaled reptiles)
Suborder:  Lacertilia (=Sauria) (lizards)
Family:  Agamidae (agamid lizards)
Genus:  Ctenophorus (small dragons)

Scientific Name:  Ctenophorus nuchalis (de Vis, 1884)

Habitat:  Open arid regions; often found near rocks, logs, and roadsides near burrows.

Length: Around 9 inches total.

This was the only netted dragon I found on my trip, and contrary to its normal diurnal habits, I found it at 9:15 at night on the road to Uluru (Ayers Rock), about 120 km west of the Stuart Highway.  It sat very still while I took video and remained still until I left.  This specimen was fairly small--maybe about 6 inches long or so.
