I happened to see this juvenile lizard sunning
itself, looking very proud, as I was hiking the Palm Canyon Trail
at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park the morning of 11 April 2003. |

This specimen was only about 6
inches long. I saw a few adults which were easily twice as
big, but they always ran off before I got close enough for a
photograph. |
