This picture is what's left of
the place where Carver was born. Situated at the edge of a
forest, it was the ideal habitat for Five-lined
Skinks. We walked along a nature trail into the woods
and also found a Three-Toed Box
Turtle (Terrapene carolina triunguis), but it was
sufficiently buried in thick grass to prevent taking a picture
good enough to post here.
In August 2004, I made a couple of trips to Branson and found fence
lizards and more skinks.
